Presenting some special music experiences and highlights – not to be missed!
Dr Simon Rowe, Executive Director of The Brubeck Institute and a renowned jazz pianist, will perform music by the iconic jazz pianist Dave Brubeck -who believed in the power of music to transform lives as well as to enlighten and entertain.
He is joined by US based Irish jazz vocalist/broadcaster Melanie O’Reilly in a Brubeck oriented concert entitled "Jazz for Peace". Together they will perform some of the lesser known songs from the Brubeck songbook, highlighting the musical collaboration between Dave & his wife and lyricist Iola Brubeck. Presented as part of FUAIM Music at UCC.
The Brubeck Institute was established by the University of the Pacific in 2000 to honor its distinguished alumni, Dave and Iola Brubeck. The mission of the Institute is to build on Dave Brubeck’s legacy and his lifelong dedication to music, creativity, education and the advancement of important social issues.
Executive Director of the Brubeck Institute, Dr. Simon Rowe is a distinguished educator, entrepreneur, and internationally esteemed jazz pianist. Along with leading the Simon Rowe Trio, Rowe has played with many greats including Dizzy Gillespie, Bob Mintzer, Marvin Stamm, and Dianne Schurr. Rowe holds a doctorate of Musical Arts in Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has held appointments in higher education, including directing the leading music industry program in the Minnesota State University system.
Award winning vocalist Melanie O’Reilly is recognized as one of Ireland’s international jazz ambassadors and is currently based in Berkeley, California as a United States distinguished artist in residence, international jazz performer/singer, songwriter and music educator . Her unique and compelling bridge between Irish traditional music and jazz has won her a glowing reputation in Europe and the United States.
This fearless mainstream duo, with degrees in jazz performance from the prestigious Newpark Music Centre in Dublin will present standards and exciting originals from their recently launched first album. Presented in association with the Embassy of the Czech Republic.

This international operatic soloist made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Her stunning career has seen her in principal roles at Glyndebourne Opera, Opera North, English National Opera and a host of opera houses around Europe and Australia. She reveals her jazz inclinations in this concert, exploring the standard and not-so-standard repertoire of the great American songbook. Accompanied by a stellar jazz quintet.
